During migration, families may find themselves plunged into the anxiety of not knowing what happened to their loved one. Also, people who undertake migration express the need to communicate with their loved ones during their journey. Sometimes migrants find themselves in distress and they need to communicate with their families or simply do not have the means to get in touch with them. The restoration or maintenance of family contact during migration is an unavoidable need, which aims to alleviate the pain of separation from loved ones.

If you are a person on the move who needs to make a sign of life by calling your family, you can find useful information in this article.

Are there structures that allow people travelling in Agadez, Dirkou, Siguédine,  Assamaka  and  Arlit to be in contact with their loved ones?

In Agadez, the Nigerien Red Cross (CRN: Croix Rouge Nigeriénne) gives migrants leaving for Agadez, as well as those who have been turned away, the opportunity to get in touch with their loved ones with a free telephone service.

How does the CRN phone call work?

In Agadez, the Croix-Rouge Nigérienne (CRN) in collaboration with the Comité international de la Croix-Rouge  (CICR) and the Croix Rouge Française (CRF) in Niger are working to help migrants maintain the family link in order to prevent disappearances and exchange family news via telephone calls. In some cases, involving unaccompanied migrant children, this may lead to family tracing and reunification, always considering the best interests of the child.

The facilitation of family contact by the Croix-Rouge Nigeriénne in granting minutes of communication to vulnerable migrants, both national and international, so that they can hear from their families. For this, the CRN has positioned antennas in the transit centers of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Agadez, Arlit, Assamaka and  Dirkou and  kiosks in some transport companies in these localities available to migrants.
